What is Cardiac Rehabilitation?
The Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at Greek American Rehabilitation and Care Centre is a medically supervised treatment program designed to optimize our cardiac patient's physical, psychological and social well-being.
Our unique program implements the use and variety of exercise equipment designed to improve endurance, strength, flexibility and overall energy level.
The exercise program is tailored to meet the patients needs and tolerance. Our specialized nursing and therapy staff oversee the plan of care under the direction of a Board Certified Cardiologist who is able to oversee patients during their stay on an ongoing basis.
Upon admission, we assess cardiac risk factors and to set goals for each patient based upon their cardiac diagnosis. Greek American Rehabilitation and Care Centre also provides education to our patients on a regular basis. These topics are related to risk factor modification, diet and nutrition, cardiovascular disease and how to implement a healthy lifestyle change. Patient progress and goals are assessed through care planning with our specially trained staff to ensure you are meeting your goals.
Our patients usually see an increase in exercise capabilities and improved psychological well being. Some cardiac risk factors which can be improved through our program include daily exercise through education based on the patients tolerance, decrease in weight and blood pressure.
In addition, the Program is designed to stabilize, slow or even reverse the progression of heart failure. This individualized plan is centered around you and your specific cardiac issue including:

Our cardiovascular physical therapists at Greek American Rehabilitation and Care Centre have an in depth knowledge of the cardiovascular implications of the diseases affecting the heart. Their expertise allows them to perform valued assessments of a patient’s physical performance relating to their condition and design effective intervention programs
Our Approach to Cardiac Care:
Our interdisciplinary team under the direction of a Board Certified Cardiologist, critical care physician and our highly trained nursing staff assesses your personal risk factors for heart and blood vessel disease. A tailored individualized treatment plan is then developed for each patient to control, improve and lessen the physical and emotional effects of heart disease.
Post-discharge services are coordinated based on resident need.
The Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program at Greek American Rehabilitation and Care Centre provides a comprehensive rehabilitation pulmonary services program designed to help individuals manage and minimize the debilitating effects of pulmonary disease.
Our interdisciplinary team under the direction of a board certified pulmonologist, and critical care physician consists of respiratory, physical, occupational therapists and registered dieticians with our highly trained nursing staff who will design an individualized treatment plan for you.
The team approach to your care plan includes: activities of daily living (ADL), strength and endurance training, chest mobilization, respiratory muscle testing, and energy conservation education. Residents in the program are shown and taught specialized techniques to better manage stress and anxiety, educated on how nutrition and diet relate to their condition, and gain a better understanding of the disease process.
The speech therapists analyze the swallowing process to help reduce the risk of aspiration and to help correct the patients voice production in individuals with limited lung capacity.
Restrictive and obstructive pulmonary conditions treated include:

Our Approach to Care
Residents gain strength and endurance through our personally tailored therapy and care plan. Physical and occupational therapy improve mobility and activities of daily living (ADL). Respiratory therapy provides diagnostic testing and therapeutic intervention to promote optimal lung function. We provide in-house preliminary Sleep Apnea screening, bedside spirometry and patient education with regards to using Bi-Pap and C-Pap Machines. Upon discharge home, our respiratory therapist conducts a home visit to ensure continued safety after your stay.
The pulmonary rehabilitation program places a strong emphasis on resident and family education including:
- Physiology of breathing
- Lung Disease
- Safe use of oxygen
- Energy conservation
- Proper breathing techniques including breathing retraining
- Body mechanics
- Activity of daily living (ADL instructions)
- Infection prevention
Every resident is issued an individualized home program. Post-discharge services are coordinated based on resident need. Residents may receive referrals to any of the following: Home Health agency, Out Patient Therapy Program, a Wellness Program or follow an independent exercise program.
The Greek American Rehabilitation and Care Centre provides an exemplary outpatient rehabilitation program to ensure you are able to maintain your independence upon discharge through patient education and a tailored plan of care, our Respiratory Therapist will make a home visit after your discharge to ensure you have the ability to manage at home.
